Community Work Serving community and There Families CCD works in the community helping families who have disabled children. This is a preventative measure to deal with the heart of the problem and to prevent children being abandoned by their parents due to their disabilities. Community Based Rehabilitation Our community work rehabilitates children with disabilities, reduces the stigma surrounding disability, increases disability awareness and empowers parents by giving them support and training. At our community centre children receive physiotherapy, speech therapy, learn independence and gain life skills. ​ Our field workers also carry out regular home visits with our families where they can see children in their own environment, improve this environment when needed (with specialist equipment being fitted) and also help parents to cope at home. We offer school support and integration into their local community. ​ All our services are offered to local families, many of them very poor, completely free of charge. This is a holistic and sustainable work, and provides a long-term solution for disabled children with the aiming of preventing abandonment. Our field workers and physiotherapists also visit hospitals, schools and community centres speaking about disability to reduce the stigma and educate people on disability rights. ​ CCD’s first Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) project was established in 1997 in Nakhom Pathom. We have rapidly grown such that CBR projects are now located in three provinces, serving over 250 children with a variety of disabilities, and their families: CBR 1 – Nakhon Pathom Province, CBR 2 – Nonthaburi Province and CBR 3 – Chai Nat Province. Our CBR Projects all include: A Day Care centre which is open at least 2 days per week where parents can bring their children to receive stimulation, physiotherapy and specialist care. We organise activities and outings, run a toy library in our centres, and also give every child lots of love, attention and fun. ​ Regular Home Visits ​ Working with Community Service Providers – schools, community centres, social services and hospitals ​ Raising awareness about disability rights and speaking in schools CBR has initiated: Public awareness programs to reduce the number of children born with disabilities where preventative precautions can be taken ​ Parent support groups ​ Education of families as to benefits and resources available in the local community ​ Parent-shared day-care to free some parents to have time to work ​ Advocacy assistance to help parents attend and understand official appointments with agencies such as schools and hospitals ​ Training for families, teachers and health care workers

New Hope Early Childhood Development Centre This is CCD’s newest project, which began in June 2015, as a social enterprise paid nursery for mainstream children in the community. Objectives in establishing the Center To develop children in a Christian style Teaches Christian Ethics and the Story of God to lighten the burden on the family for children to receive the correct development according to the child's age so that normal children have the opportunity to interact understand children with disabilities New Hope Center Objectives Generate income It generates income for our work with disabled children. ​ Serve children with both typical and additional needs ​ ​ Facilitate integration between children with and without special needs It facilitates integration between children without cognitive impairments, and those who have special educational needs. Our New Hope children eat lunch with Rainbow Day Care children, have joint activities such as interactive music sessions, sports sessions and art therapy lessons. We also do joint outings, special visits and events like Sports Day, Father's Day and Christmas. Every morning begins with listening to the Thai National Anthem, and raising a Thai flag, followed by exercises outside. Again, we do these together every day to achieve integration and develop friendships and relationships between New Hope and Rainbow Day Care children. ​ Raise awareness about disability It raises awareness about disability for the increased number of families we are reaching in the community. We hold joint Parent Review meetings with the parents of Rainbow House Day Care children, again facilitating integration and reducing the stigma and isolation surrounding disability. ​ Provide affordable high quality nursery education It provides affordable high quality nursery education for children aged 18 months up until they turn 4. Volunteer CCD welcomes volunteers from all over the world to serve and help the children and adults we work with. Volunteering is a life-changing experience and provides the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of abandoned and disabled children and adults. With volunteers to work alongside CCD staff it means more children can experience the love and care they need. Volunteers can bring fresh enthusiasm and ideas and are often a huge encouragement to staff and children alike. Background Information Volunteers are placed in one of our day-care centres in the Government homes (Fuang Fah, Rachawadee Girls or Rachawadee Boys), or our daycare centre in Rainbow House, all of which are in Pakkred. There are also opportunities to volunteer in CCD’s community-based projects too, although this often requires a longer time-commitment due to needing some Thai language skills. How to apply All volunteers will need to go through a screening process to ensure they are suitable to work with vulnerable children and adults. CCD works in partnership with For Life UK and CCD-USA in the screening and training of volunteers across the world. Their disabilities range from being wheelchair users to hearing impairment to learning difficulties. ​ Of the 8 boys living there 3 of them are still at school, 4 are now working for a furniture company, and 1 is employed by CCD. They live independently doing their own cooking, washing and housework but they still need support from CCD just like any other young people need parents – for advice, love and safety.
